For every person that wants a traditional wedding there is someone who wants something a bit different. More and more couples like to incorporate a theme into their nuptials. Below are some ideas and ways to bring your theme to life.
Sports - very popular with weddings taking places in sporting venues, it is not just your favourite team's colours you could incorporate into your wedding. How about naming your tables after players in your team? Your page boys and flower girls could wear your team's kit and your table centres could feature a piece of your team's equipment i.e. mini footballs or rugby balls. You could also ask your DJ to play the songs that are associated with your team throughout your reception
Wales - do you want to celebrate with elements from your home country in the world? Theme your menu to feature the best of Welsh produce such as seafood, lamb and cheese. You could also name your tables after important Welsh people from history, have a colour scheme using the colours of the Welsh flag and even have a male voice choir as your entertainment.
Green - with ecological issues becoming more and more important to people, why not have a truly green wedding? Start by sourcing all of your menu produce from local and organic suppliers. Use only recycled paper products for invitations or even send all of your invites via e-mail. Find bride and bridesmaid dresses via second hand sources such as e-bay or charity shops. Arrange for transportation for your guests to ensure as few vehicles as possible are used. There are many more ways to lessen the impact on the environment and some of these can easily be incorporated into a traditional wedding format
With more and more hen and stag parties looking for something unique, there has never been a better time to go all out for that special event. Nights out on the town, spa weekends and action-packed activities continue to be popular choices. Whether you are on a tight budget or money is no object, we have offered some fresh ideas below:
Why not host a combined hen and stag event with all of your friends? There are plenty of joint event options and can ensure that all of your friends get to know each other before the big day.
Canal barge weekend - relaxing and slow paced for fun on the water.
Camping weekend - camp along the coast for those long lazy days or have a truly active hiking weekend.
Country House weekend - hire an entire house for the weekend and even arrange for a murder mystery performance one night during dinner.
With easier than ever access to the most far-flung destinations in the world, there is no need to ever discount your perfect honeymoon. However, if you are undecided or can't agree on a destination why not consider some more unusual ideas below:
Festivals - With a full range of festivals running throughout the year you could combine your honeymoon with a trip to your favourite festival whether it be the Glastonbury Festival, Hay-on-Wye Literature Festival, Edinburgh Comedy Festival or event the New Orleans Jazz Festival. With so many to choose from you may find it harder than you think!
Volunteer Programmes - There are a number of charities involved in attracting honeymooners who want to combine a holiday with a worthwhile project. Many of the programmes can be found in Africa with the option to combine a safari holiday with community work in some of the poorer regions of the continent. Other locations include south and central America and the Far East.
Transportation Aficionados - For those couples who love all modes of transport, there are certainly lots of options to incorporate this element into your honeymoon. Why not charter a yacht around the Mediterranean? Sail in hot air balloons in New Zealand? Catch an ice breaker to the North Pole or even travel the Silk Road of Asia by yak, camel, truck and anything else that carries you on the 8,000km journey!
Traditionally wedding gifts often included household goods as many couples did not live together until after they were married. With traditions changing and more couples living together before marriage, it can be harder to find suitable gifts for newlyweds. However, there is range of different gift ideas on the market that may take your fancy.
Pre-Paid Credit Cards - similar to a regular credit card although it is fully pre-paid, many financial organisations now offer a pre-paid card that allows you take money from cash machines in the UK or abroad. Guests can pay in to this account and you can use this on your honeymoon.
Honeymoons - Many travel agents now offer a service whereby wedding guests can pay into a honeymoon account for the bride and groom.
Charity Donations - Why not give something back by asking your guests to make a donation to charity in place of a gift? Whether it is your favourite charity or a charity of their choice, this ensures you don't have to worry about those unwanted gifts!
